The two church leaders have been held in custody for almost a year since the church was raided by police in December 2018. On Monday, the first hearing in Qin Defu’s case was heard without his chosen lawyer present. It is not known when the next hearing will be held. Pastor Wang Yi has also been denied representation by his chosen lawyer.

December 9th marked the one-year anniversary of the arrest of Pastor Wang Yi, who is still in jail awaiting trial. Early Rain Covenant Church members continue to be harassed and arrested.
Pastor Wang Yi understood the dangers coming against the church. In advance, he wrote the following statement to be released upon his arrest. “It is a glorious display of faith and courage in the face of persecution. It is sure to become a significant document in Chinese church history. Read it and pray for Pastor Wang Yi, his wife and son, his church, and all Christians in China who are facing various pressures because of their faith,” was shared by an Early Rain Covenant Church social media account.
