UPDATES Praise God for the early release from prison of Thaddeus Nguyen Van Ly, a Vietnamese church leader, human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize nominee (Prayer Alert, February 12, 2013). He was sentenced to eight years in jail for slander and libel against the state in 2007 – and was freed on Friday, ahead of President Obama’s visit to Vietnam this week. The 65-year-old has spent a total of more than 15 years in jail and is partially paralysed after several strokes. (Source: Christian Solidarity Worldwide)

Pray for our brother in China, imprisoned pastor Yang Hua, whose lawyers believe he has been tortured in jail. Pastor Yang, who leads Huoshi Church in Guiyang, Guizhou province, has been held since December and was officially arrested for ‘divulging state secrets’ in January (Prayer Alert, February 19).
