Pray for Syria
Imagine , for a moment, that you are a believing wife called Rabka and your country is engulfed by civil war, your husband never returns one night from seeking work, your home is destroyed and you are left with your children and must resort to begging in the streets. Or you are Kurian, another believer and a well-paid engineer when armed insurgents come to the door tell you that if you don’t flee you will be killed and your wife and daughters raped-you flee to neighbouring Lebanon but cannot afford to send your girls to school. Both these families are being supported by the diaconal giving of churches.
These scenarios are typical of those multiplied thousands of times in this war-torn country.
4.5 million people are displaced within Syria, 1.4 million refugees left the country of which 0.5 million are in Lebanon. (half of all these are children)
Ministry to women and children is vital (women’s groups) and trauma counseling. Training for this is vital. Women pray that they will not be humiliated-it struck me that rape is almost like female crucifixion for these victims.
May the Lord who rules and warned of wars use this one to bring in more of His elect and establish them. Pray for the faithful Christian leaders left in the country and ministering to the refugees in surrounding countries.
